Pool Party a Splash!

Northside celebrated the last Friday night of summer with a pool party at the Fayetteville Athletic Club.

The kids enjoyed the pool while the adults enjoyed the conversation.

Kolby's Story

Please take a few minutes to read about Kolby’s amazing story. This is a great reminder of why there are so many passionate Rotarians helping out with the annual Northside Rotary Kidney Walkathon. Northside is making a positive difference in the lives of many!

Half of the proceeds go to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Kidney Program.
The rest stays in the Angel Fund to help kidney patients with expenses that they couldn’t otherwise cover (medical expenses, medicine, gas cards for trips to dialysis, electric bills, etc.).

District Governor Visits

District Governor Ron Petersen visited the club on Tuesday, August 19th. During his address he challenged our club to raise $1,000 each year for PolioPlus for the next three years in order to meet the $100 million challenge grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

NORTHSIDE ROTARY MAKES GIFTS

(Fayetteville) — The Northside Rotary Club of Fayetteville presented a check on Tuesday to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation. The donation of $14,475.72 , which was raised at the Northside Rotary Walk For Kidney Sake in September, will be used to continue programs of public education, research, and emergency grants for Arkansans battling kidney disease. Northside Fayetteville has a membership drive underway. Be sure to "give a pitch" for Rotary to your friends, associates and co-workers. When they visit the club the first time you have a "runner on first." Bring them back again and again and round the bases. When you propose a new members they'll be "headed for home."

We've got six "headed for home" right now. Which team will earn the most runs?!?! Stay tuned!

Northside Fayetteville welcomed a very special honorary member of the club on August 14, 2007.

Stephanie Eiland, mother of Kolby and volunteer extraordinaire, works tirelessly on the Northside Rotary Walk for Kidney Sake. Stephanie is an excellent example of Rotary in action. She upholds the ideal of Service Above Self in her everyday life. We are proud to have her in our midst.

Northside Rotary Walk for Kidney Sake

Kolby Eiland had both kidneys removed when he was 3 years old. He was on dialysis for 18 months. He received a successful kidney transplant at age 5. Kolby is now an Ambassador for Arkansas Children’s Hospital and is enjoying an active and healthy childhood.

Northside Rotary has been a supporter of the Eiland family through some difficult times. When Northside Rotary learned that the National Kidney Foundation was closing its Little Rock office and that the Kidney Walk was at risk of being discontinued, Northside Rotary stepped up to the challenge and in only 2 months pulled off a very successful event.

The Northside Rotary Walk for Kidney Sake is a non-competitive event focusing on educating the public about kidney disease and organ donation. Fifty-percent of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Arkansas Children’s Hospital to provide needed funds to continue programs of public education, research, and emergency grants for Arkansans battling kidney disease. Remaining funds will go to help dialysis patients in NWA and toward partnering with a local organization to help children in NWA who are on dialysis.

The 2nd Annual Northside Rotary Walk for Kidney Sake is scheduled to take place on September 8, 2007 at Gulley Park in Fayetteville.

The Rotary Rose Garden and Peace Arbor

The Rotary Club of Fayetteville and the Northside Fayetteville Rotary Club are pleased to announce their joint support of the Rotary Rose Garden and Peace Arbor, a community project that benefits the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks and the Northwest Arkansas community at large.

It is an exciting time for the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks now that the Carl A. Totemeier Horticulture Center is complete and well over 18,000 square feet of backyard gardens, a children's garden, Japanese garden, rock and water garden, and other gardens are under construction (see conceptual plan below).

Arguably the most striking feature of the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks will be the Rotary Rose Garden and Peace Arbor. It will contain approximately one hundred different varieties of roses (see conceptual plan below) and a stunning architecturally designed arbor as the garden's centerpiece. Below is the lastest rendering of what the arbor will look like up close. The arbor was designed by Amirmoez, Foster, Hailey and Johnson Architects in Fayetteville led by Rotarians Jim Foster and Zed Johnson. Click the image for a larger depiction of the Peace Arbor. In addition to the significant funding and support of the Fayetteville Rotary clubs, the community at large and local businesses are asked to show their support by getting in on the ground floor of what will be a significant Northwest Arkansas landmark.

Rotarian of the Year

A very special meeting of the Northside Rotary Club was held at the Mount Sequoyah Conference and Retreat Center on June 19th, 2007. Hannah McNeill was honored as the Dave Hollenbeck Rotarian of the Year.

Hannah's name is announced as ROTY.
